We kicked off a planned series of 'Evenings with the Society's Published Authors' on February 28th at the Royal Lakeside Club in Kuala Lumpur. The evening featured readings by and a discussion with Dato' Dr M. SHANmughalingam.

We were privileged to have the opportunity to spend an informal and entertaining evening with the widely published and award-winning author Dato' Dr M. SHANmughalingam. He read brief extracts from his published short stories and poems and then took questions from the audience.

Dato’ Dr. Shan's literary work includes short stories and poems that have been published in France, India, Ireland, Singapore, the UK, the US and his native Malaysia. He won the British Council short story competition in 2010 and the second prize in the prestigious Oxford University Short Story Competition judged by the famous novelist, Iris Murdoch and Professor of Literature, John Bayley.

His work was also the Editor's Choice from 1,450 international entriesfor Ireland's Fish International Short Story Prize and was published in the Commonwealth Anthology of Poetry with 3 Nobel prize winners.

He won the poetry prize at Balliol College, Oxford. He has given dramatized performance readings of his literary work at universities including Cambridge, Oxford, Singapore, IIUM, UKM, UPM, UM etc, colleges and schools including Taylors, Garden International, ELC, book stores including Borders, London, S’pore,K.L., Kinokuniya, MPH and over Radio Fremantle, Australia, RTM etc.

His formal academic education has taken him to the Victoria Institution, KL and the universities of Malaya, Harvard and Oxford. His day job is as Managing Director of Trilogic Sdn Bhd. He was formerly with Petronas and the Treasury, Min of Finance, Malaysia.
