50th Anniversary of the Oxford
& Cambridge First Overland Expedition
Attention all aspiring adventurers!
Sunway University College cordially
invites you to a special talk cum video presentation of the Oxford
& Cambridge First Overland Expedition. The amazing expedition
from England to Singapore was undertaken by six Oxbridge undergraduates
in 1955, covering 16 countries including the deserts of Persia,
the plains of India and the jungles of Burma, Thailand and Malaya,
and took over 6 months to complete. The expedition has been described
as an epic jungle journey with too many rivers and too few roads
to travel!

Tim Slessor, one of the team members of the expedition, is in
Kuala Lumpur for the 50th anniversary of the Oxford & Cambridge
First Overland Expedition, which was recently celebrated with
a drive to re-enact the last leg of that extraordinary expedition,
from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore.
Tim Slessor has written the book, First Overland,
which is today one of the best selling travel books which manages
to deliver 'an optimistic sense of adventure'.
