The Society aims to promote social, recreational and cultural activities among its members and to further causes or projects in the interest of the Universities or their members. True to its objectives, the Society organises the annual Boat Race Dinner, talks by leading economic and political figures as well as informal events, black-tie dinners and debates on current issues. Read the President's Message HERE.

The Society Elects Its First Honorary Member

The Society has elected Mr. Bill Dobson of Benalla, Victoria, Australia as its first Honorary Member in recognition of and gratitude for his donation of the Benalla boats and trailer to the Society. Bill's election follows a change to our Constitution last year to provide for Honorary Membership.

New Sponsor for the 2012 Boat Race

A new sponsor has generously contributed RM10,000 towards the 2012 Boat Race, the highlight of the Society's sporting calendar. Mr. Nick Ashby, a stalwart of the Society for many years and a formidable oarsman in his own right, presented his sponsorship cheque to the Society's President, Margaret Hall, at a recent charity event.

Potluck Dinners: Nigella meets Chef Wan

Are you keen on dinner parties? If so, why don't you volunteer to host one of our 'Pot Luck' dinner parties and put that kitchen to good use!  Continuing with our drive to encourage more social interaction between our members, we are delighted to inform you that some of our members have very kindly agreed to become hosts for our inaugural "Jom Makan" series!

'Small Bites, Big Ideas' - With Abdul Razak Abdullah Baginda

As part of the Society's ongoing series of talks (Small Bites, Big Ideas), a stimulating evening of conversation with Abdul Razak Baginda took place on December 15th on the topic: "Malaysia - Trapped by Religion and Politics?"

Charity Christmas Food and Wine Tasting

The Society recently organised a Christmas food and wine tasting in support of the Chin refugee children in Malaysia. Members enjoyed a fun evening and stocked up on a range of fine wines, beers and seasonal foods - all available at bargain prices for Christmas delivery!

Help Support The Society's New Boats

After searching the globe, we have been fortunate enough to find a very generous donor of several boats in Victoria, Australia, which are now safely stored at Putrajaya Lake. The Society is now organising a fund-raising drive to help support the storage, repair and maintenance of our boats so that the fleet will provide a long-lasting and reliable resource for competitive rowing in Malaysia.

Guy Fawkes Night Party

"Remember remember the fifth of November, gunpowder, treason and plot. I see no reason why gunpowder and treason should ever be forgot." Members rekindled all the fun of Guy Fawkes Night (or Bonfire Night) at the ONLY Guy Fawkes celebration in Malaysia.  There were jacket potatoes, pies and toffee apples, fireworks and sparklers, a bonfire and - of course - a Guy to burn! Project Southeast Asia

The Society recently organised Evening Drinks with Dr. Chan Xin Hui, Dr. Thum Ping Tjin and Tom Hoogervoorst, the Pioneers of the University of Oxford’s Project Southeast Asia, in The Hard Rock Cafe at 8.30 pm on October 23rd.

The 2011 Oxford and Cambridge Society Malaysia and Sunway University English Language Competition included an Essay Competition which attracted more candidates than ever before. The quality of the winning entries from the fourth and fifth formers taking part was remarkably high and you can read the six winning essays here.

Why Oxbridge is frightened of ignorant students

Written by Martin Stephen - The Daily Telegraph

Over 24 years of being a headmaster I identified a truth so far undiscovered by science. As the discoverer, I named it after myself – "Stephen’s Law Of Inverse Ratios". It has numerous incarnations, such as Stephen’s Law Of Inverse Ratios Number 7: Academic Dress.
