The Society aims to promote social, recreational and cultural activities among its members and to further causes or projects in the interest of the Universities or their members. True to its objectives, the Society organises the annual Boat Race Dinner, talks by leading economic and political figures as well as informal events, black-tie dinners and debates on current issues. Oxbridge Malaysia/Sunway Public Speaking Competition

The 2012 Oxford & Cambridge Society Malaysia/Sunway University public speaking competition preliminary rounds and semi-finals were held on Saturday April 14th at Sunway University. Almost 120 fourth and fifth form students from as far away as Ipoh and Melaka toook part.

The annual Oxford & Cambridge Boat Race Bash is here again!

You'll notice that the header says "Bash" instead of "Ball". This is because we've been told, somewhat repeatedly, that Oxbridge needs to liven up its somewhat stuffy image, thus this year we decided to shun the usual black tie do and opt for something more casual and informal to show people that we do indeed know how to have fun!

Calling all rowers, past, present and future!

Be part of the glory! The annual Oxford and Cambridge Malaysia Boat Race will be held again this year on the lake at Putrajaya. We are looking for anyone who has coxed, rowed either sweep or sculls, or would like to try it out for the first time.

Oxford students told off for wearing pyjamas to breakfast

Written by Hannah Furness

Undergraduates at Brasenose College have “failed to distinguish between public and private spaces” while enjoying their breakfasts and have been warned to dress more appropriately forthwith.

Tun Suffian Lectureship Royal Charity Dinner

The Tun Suffian Lectureship Royal Charity Dinner will take place on April 19th 2012 at the Shangri-la Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. “Once a Caian always a Caian – Remembering Tun Suffian and Toh Puan Bunny”.

'Small Bites, Big Ideas' with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission

Continuing our popular series of talks and discussions, 'Small Bites, Big Ideas', a senior officer from The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) recently addressed the Society on the subject of: "Challenges in Fighting Corruption in Malaysia".

Visit to HRH the Sultan of Selangor's Automobile Gallery

The Oxford & Cambridge Society Malaysia was recently graciously invited by HRH the Sultan of Selangor for a private viewing of the Royal Automobile Gallery at Istana Alam Shah, Klang on Saturday, 25 February 2012.

The Society Elects Its First Honorary Member

The Society has elected Mr. Bill Dobson of Benalla, Victoria, Australia as its first Honorary Member in recognition of and gratitude for his donation of the Benalla boats and trailer to the Society. Bill's election follows a change to our Constitution last year to provide for Honorary Membership.

New Sponsor for the 2012 Boat Race

A new sponsor has generously contributed RM10,000 towards the 2012 Boat Race, the highlight of the Society's sporting calendar. Mr. Nick Ashby, a stalwart of the Society for many years and a formidable oarsman in his own right, presented his sponsorship cheque to the Society's President, Margaret Hall, at a recent charity event.

Help Support The Society's New Boats

After searching the globe, we have been fortunate enough to find a very generous donor of several boats in Victoria, Australia, which are now safely stored at Putrajaya Lake. The Society is now organising a fund-raising drive to help support the storage, repair and maintenance of our boats so that the fleet will provide a long-lasting and reliable resource for competitive rowing in Malaysia.
